Through my paintings and drawings I question the context of the image and the manner in which meaning is derived through association. I explore ideas of beauty, adornment and decoration. It is my intent to question the manner in which we perceive ourselves and our surroundings, and how perception is shaped by the manner in which we adorn ourselves. I primarily work in series, to develop relationships and create context for my subjects. The subjects of my latest paintings are objects that I craft by hand, using carefully selected fabrics and other bits of embellishment. The forms in these paintings are intended to be both revealing and concealing themselves at the same time, with an outer layer to be looked at and admired while the inside remains a question. On display - while at the same time hiding beneath the layers. |
